My Setting
I use the whole of the ground floor of my home for Childminding, with toilet facilities available on the same floor. The area is spacious and designed to meet children's needs to be safe and able to choose resources such as books, toys and craft materials unaided enabling them to make the choices they wish as recommended by the Early Years Foundation Stage. I choose resources which offer open ended play opportunities and which a predominantly made of natural materials such as wood. Cosy sofas and cushions offer children the chance to relax quietly when they wish. Children are able to be creative when they choose, through the provision of varied materials and media to experiment with. I have an enclosed outside space with outdoor play equipment such as sand and water play, ride on cars, hoola hoops, balls and games. We use local woodland and my allotment extensions of our outside space on a regular basis.
Pets
We have two very friendly dogs, a Cocker Spaniel and a Beagle cross, they both very used to children and fantastic with them but they are not allowed in the play areas whilst I am Childminding and children only spend time with them under close supervision.
We also have two cats and 8 laying hens, children love visiting them in their run and helping me to collect their eggs.
All animals are vaccinated, wormed and treated for fleas and ticks on a regular basis. Children always wash their hands after touching them and the dogs are not permitted into the play area of the garden. I respect children's feelings if they don't feel comfortable around the animals. Children's safety is paramount at all times.
